Protein transport to plant vacuoles occurs via the secretory pathway, a complex network of cell compartments. Thanks to the use of a recycling-defective vacuolar sorting receptor, our lab has recently discovered a new compartement situated between prevacuoles and vacuoles in tobacco. (Foresti et al., 2010). This new compartement named LPVC (Late prevacuolar compartement) is characterized by high concentrations of soluble vacuolar cargo and the rab5 GTPase Rha1. My role is to purify and characterise this novel compartement as well as understand its function in the secretory pathway.
