Research Overview

CPS research is carried out by over 10 research groups with expertise in plant cell & molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics, epigenetics, stress physiology, environmental physiology, plant-soil interactions and crop science.

Collaborations between researchers within the CPS and others within the Faculty of Biological Sciences and in other research areas of the university including chemistry, food science and earth & environment and engineering provide access to a diverse and extensive array of research facilities and research opportunities.

CPS houses a number of core research facilities that underpin the various aspects of our research portfolio. Some of these resources, such as the Plant Growth Facilities are specific to plant-focused research. CPS is also home to one of the world's largest collections of monoclonal antibodies directed to plant cell walls. In addition to the facilities housed within CPS, we enjoy access to other state of the art resources within other parts of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, such additional facilities for bioimaging, proteomics, structural analysis and the analysis of molecular interactions include: electron and confocal laser scanning microscopy, electrospray mass spectrometry, MALDI-MS, Q-Tof-MS/MS, X-ray crystallography, NMR, CD and surface plasmon resonance. Many of these additional facilities are housed within the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology.
